Action Plan: Close Read Resources

Goal: To explore and centralize resources appropriate for close read in the classroom.

Action Step #1: Exploration and Evaluation of State-suggested Close Reads

Date(s): 1/13/2012, 1/21/2012

Specific Tasks: Use Engage NY to explore sample close reads; evaluate suggestions for strong close read materials

Timeline: Two meeting dates: 1 @ 2 hours and 1 @ 3 hours = 5 hours

Resources Needed: Engage NY

Person(s) Responsible: All group members

Action Step #2: Investigate and Evaluate Databases for Appropriate Close Read Materials

Date(s): 1/27/2012 and 2/10/2012

Specific Tasks: Explore databases that NVHS currently subscribes to for content that could be considered for close reads. Evaluate how to level the readings chosen.

Timeline: Two meeting dates @ 2 hours each = 4 hours

Resources Needed: Access to purchased databases and passwords. All available though our library website.

Person(s) Responsible: All group members

Action Step #3: Investigate and evaluate other Resources (Journals, Websites, Magazines, etc) for Appropriate Close Read Materials

Date(s): 2/24/2012, 3/09/2012, and 3/12/2012

Specific Tasks: Each group member will be responsible for bringing materials that could be used for close reads. Group members will share the findings as well as up to three other resources best suited for close read materials. Group members will closely evaluate the materials brought.

Timeline: Three meeting dates @ 2 hours each = 6 hours

Resources Needed: Suggested close read materials from each group member

Action Step #4: Create and Distribute Materials to expose teachers to Resources we have collected

Date(s): 3/15/2012

Specific Tasks: Gather resources for teachers to preview regarding close read materials. Provide those resources to teachers to evaluate for feedback.

Timeline: One meeting date @ 2 hours

Resources Needed: Collection of approved resources and organized so that teachers can easily preview them.

Person(s) Responsible: All group members

Action Step #5: Create a survey for teachers to evaluate whether or not the resources provided were helpful

Date(s): 3/16/2012

Specific Tasks: Create an online survey for teachers to be able to evaluate the close read information they were given.

Timeline: One meeting date @ 2 hours

Resources Needed: Online survey form

Person(s) Responsible: All group members

Action Step #6: Evaluate completed surveys and assess which resources should be made available for teachers. Also assess if additional resources are needed.

Date(s): 3/31/2012

Specific Tasks: Go through all completed surveys and determine what teachers though of the close read resources (helpful? Not helpful? Etc.) Based on feedback, delete resources or search for additional ones.

Timeline: One meeting date @ 2 hours

Resources Needed: Online survey form, access to additional resources/databases

Person(s) Responsible: All group members

Action Step #7: Create an online space for teachers to go to and collect appropriate close read materials.

Date(s): 4/10/2012 and 4/13/2012

Specific Tasks: Organize all close read materials by content and create a section of the library website specific to the close read materials. Promote the resources via email to all teachers.

Timeline: Two meeting dates @ 2 hours

Resources Needed: Close read materials and access to Library website
